Rotary Shows That Loves Lives Here
Our Muskegon Rotary Club has a Diversity & Inclusion Committee chaired by former Club President, Brianna Scott-Grissom. Just a few weeks ago, after a couple of ugly incidents…a noose found on public school playground equipment and racial slurs painted on a public sculpture…she and her committee organized a community rally in Hackley Park to bring the community together to share the love of everything here, and speak out against hatred and bigotry. To speak for love and respect, and to let all know that LOVE LIVES HERE!
Hundreds of people gathered to listen to excellent remarks, capped by terrific, and memorable words, from Clayton Hardiman, a long-time writer for The Muskegon Chronicle.
I wish I had recorded his speech as the large crowd was completely silent while absorbing his thoughts.
Clayton remarked that racial things have changed but not very much, and he hopes his eight grandchildren will have different experiences. Clayton is a gift to the Muskegon community and he was the perfect keynote speaker for this event. Over 200 community leaders signed on to this effort as did many, many local organizations.
