Improving the Lives of Justice-involved Women in Muskegon County
Marty Sytsema with his usual energy and humor, introduced our guests from Ravenna High School: students Kendra Denhof and Caleb Jonas and school counselor Tia Filippalli.
Our Club was well represented March 14 at the Great Lakes Rotary PETS (President Elect Training) conference in Kalamazoo. With a theme of “The Magic of Rotary” our own Brianna Scott, who is the District Governor Elect for our District 6290, is clearly getting in the spirit! She’s flanked by, left, our President Nominee Dave Alexander and our President Elect Tim Arter. Our Rotarians were among 455 Rotarians from seven Great Lakes districts. District 6290 comprises 53 Rotary Clubs with Muskegon’s Club, at about 250 members, the largest. As the old saying goes, it ain’t braggin’ if it’s true.
Mark Eisenbarth, Muskegon County’s Administrator, introduces our speaker.
Put all our members on your smartphone for a quick dial connection. You will be glad you did.
Carla Flanders introduced her guest Katherine Nash.
J.J. Lewis introduced his colleague and guest Madison Butler.
Marcia Hovey-Wright introduced her guest and fellow Muskegon County Commissioner Jessica Cook.
Tim Lipan on behalf of the Social Committee, reviewed a full schedule of events planned this year for Rotarians and, in some cases, their children.
Meredith Smillie announced there will be not one, not two but THREE Paul Harris Fellows awarded to the winners of our next Brave Rotarian contest, this one focused on the men’s and women’s “March Madness” NCAA college basketball tournaments. Cost is $100 apiece and it fulfills your suggested annual contribution to the Rotary International Foundation.
Annette Jack introduced her guest Joel Lautenbach.
Myra Dutton introduced her guest Kara Novak.
Brandon Turnbull introduced his guest Andrew Mateskon.
Arn Boezaart thanked everyone who filled up the clipboard for our upcoming food truck distribution work March 27 and April 24. Let Arn know if your schedule has changed and you can no longer volunteer.
Bill Loxterman combined humor, prayer and most of all BREVITY in his reflection.
President Elect Tim Arter explained how events, like the upcoming Pours for Community in April, raise money that our Muskegon Rotary Foundation then uses for a variety of programs, from the annual Life Leadership program to supporting local non-profits, exchange students and Rotary overseas work, like our recent involvement with developing a school library in Honduras.
